Jubilee Planning

Dear Horbling Resident,

As you will probably be aware, next year sees the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, celebrating a reign of 70 years. The occasion will be marked by an extended Bank Holiday weekend, from Thursday 2nd – Sunday 5th June 2022. There are several national events planned and Horbling Parish Council will be organising events within the village.

We wanted to share our plans with you all at an early stage, so that everyone in the village has the opportunity to be involved. Some of you will be aware that Horbling has something of a tradition of celebrating in style, and this is something we really want to continue, especially given the importance of this occasion.

Following our recent public meeting, we have come up with a provisional plan, and we would very much welcome your thoughts and comments on this.

The celebrations will start in earnest in the village on Saturday 4th June, beginning with a parade through the village (families, fancy dress, pets, vehicles) leading to the school. Brown’s School have kindly agreed to work with us in hosting the events to take place on Saturday, which is marvellous news as it means we are not dependant on the weather! Saturday daytime sees family festivities at the school – stalls and activities to be decided. On Saturday evening, the events will continue at the school, with a number of bands playing live, several food options and a licensed bar operated by The Plough Inn. There is a concert at Buckingham Palace on Saturday night and our intention is to show this live in the school hall, whilst the bands are playing in marquees outside.

On Sunday 5th June, Spring Lane will be closed for a street party. The Parish Council will be providing food and there will also be events and stalls – a Bake Off competition, children’s entertainment, face painting etc

We are also intending to organise other activities that would take place before the weekend – an art competition, house decorating, token commemorative gifts for the village children.

These are the initial ideas for the celebrations. Obviously there is a lot of work to do, but we are certain that the residents of Horbling will pull together to make it a weekend to remember!

If you can help us in any way as we plan the events, please get in touch. We would genuinely welcome all of your ideas and suggestions. We will be holding a second public meeting early in the New Year, which we will publicise on the village notice board and on our Facebook page. In the meantime, please contact us by email horblingpc@gmail.com, or send a message through Facebook Messenger.

Thank you for your time, and we hope to hear from you soon.
